PING Golf was started by engineer Karsten Solheim, who experimented out of his garage to develop the first PING putter, the 1A, in 1959. The putter’s distinctive sound is where the company got its name. As the design became popular with Tour players and average golfers alike, PING began a tradition of performance-driven design and exacting manufacturing standards that continues to this day. Solheim, who passed away in 2000, is still the only golf manufacturer inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Company leadership has been passed to Karsten’s son, John Solheim, and the philosophy of excellence has continued.PING is one of the golf industry’s leaders in innovation. The company has been responsible for such developments as the perimeter-weighted club head, which made the club face more forgiving and produced better shots on off-center hits and has become an industry standard. PING also led the way into the era of custom fitting clubs for golfers with their color-coded system of dots on their club heads. The dots denoted the lie angle of the golf club and allowed regular golfers to buy clubs that fit their height and swing type for the first time ever. Along the way PING developed some of the most popular models of golf clubs ever, including the PING Anser putters and the PING Eye 2 irons. PING golf clubs have been in the bag for more than 2,000 PGA Tour wins. PING continues to lead the pack with a catalog of technologically superior golf clubs. The G-series is geared toward the average golfer who wants to see game improvement, and the i-Series appeals to advanced golfers who are interested in competitive performance while the Anser golf clubs were also introduced, adding adjustability and a middle path between the G- and I series.
